All classes are a blend of Vinyasa and Hatha yoga. Some may be more based in movement and flow (V) and others in holding postures (H).

Vinyasa Yoga is the art of pairing movement with breath. The breath leads the body from posture to posture. When we pair the movement with the breath the breath becomes the focus rather than the body and mind. Our inhales expand and float the body, while our exhales contract and root the body into the earth. It is often described as a flowing, dynamic practice where you transition from one pose to another in coordination with your inhales and exhales.

The term "vinyasa" itself means "to place in a special way," referring to the deliberate sequencing of poses and breath to create a harmonious and continuous flow in the practice. It is a popular style of yoga that emphasizes flexibility, strength, and mindfulness.

Hatha yoga is a general term for a yoga posture or series of postures. While in a posture the practitioner finds their poise and strength by focusing on the breath. The inhale brings a lightness to the posture, and the exhale deepens it. That is why it is always imperative to exhale completely. Breathing completely out is the way of making the breath complete, and strengthens the lower respiratory tract.

Hatha yoga is one of the most traditional and foundational forms of yoga. It encompasses a wide range of physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation practices. Hatha yoga is often considered a gentle and accessible style of yoga, making it suitable for beginners, but it can also be adapted to various skill levels.

In Hatha yoga classes, you typically focus on holding static poses for a period of time while paying attention to your breath and alignment. It aims to balance the body and mind, increase flexibility, build strength, and promote relaxation. Hatha yoga is a great choice for those looking to establish a strong foundation in yoga and explore the basics of yoga practice.

The word "hatha" is derived from the Sanskrit words "ha" (sun) and "tha" (moon), symbolizing the union of opposites and the balance it seeks to achieve within the practitioner.

Toadal Hot Yoga is the only one offering mid range infrared heat in all of Santa Cruz County. Adding heat and humidity to the yoga room helps practitioners become more relaxed and flexible. Both result in a deeper, more intense yoga practice. The wall mounted heaters give the feeling of being under the sun. What is better when doing Sun Salutations?

What does science say?

Infrared heat is often used for therapeutic purposes, and while it's not a magical healing force, it can have several beneficial effects on the body that contribute to the healing process. Here's why infrared heat is believed to have healing properties:

Increased circulation: Infrared heat can penetrate the skin and warm the body from within. This leads to dilation of blood vessels, increased blood flow, and improved circulation. Improved circulation can aid in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tissues, helping them to repair and heal.

Pain relief: The heat generated by infrared therapy can help relax muscles and reduce muscle tension. This can alleviate pain associated with muscle strains, joint stiffness, and various types of musculoskeletal discomfort.

Detoxification: Sweating induced by infrared heat can help the body eliminate toxins and impurities through the skin. This can support overall detoxification and promote a sense of well-being.

Relaxation and stress reduction: Infrared therapy can induce relaxation by promoting the release of endorphins, the body's natural "feel-good" chemicals. Reducing stress and promoting relaxation can indirectly support the body's healing processes.

Improved joint mobility: Infrared heat can help increase the flexibility and mobility of joints, which can be especially beneficial for individuals with arthritis or joint-related conditions.
